Kdenlive Video Editing

Last Updated on 03/01/2026 by Krishna

Kdenlive is a Free and Open Source Video Editor. It is the acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. You can do professional-level Video Editing in Kdenlive. It works on Linux, Windows, macOS, and BSD. Kdenlive is not a rendering engine itself. It is a frontend over:

  • MLT Framework → core engine
  • FFmpeg → processing & codecs
  • Frei0r → plugin effects
  • GLSL → GPU shader effects
  • XML / QML → effect definitions & UI

Kdenlive rivals include professional-grade tools like DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro, as well as open-source alternatives like Shotcut, Olive, and Blender.

If you want to learn video editing at a professional level and free of cost, then Kdenlive is the best option. I have created a complete tutorial from basic to advanced level, and continuously making more videos on Kdenlive tutorials on YouTube. The language of my tutorial video is Hindi, and subtitles are available in English. So, you can watch it and understand it. Some of my videos are also available in English (auto dub), and I am trying to make them in both languages.
